Engineering Throughout the Process

Whitesell Precision Components has a large engineering team with specialists in areas such as product engineering assistance, process engineering, automation and automated processes, fabrication, tooling, finishing, and secondary operations.

High-Volume Precision Machining

As a specialist in creating value through rotary transfer technologies, WPC’s capabilities include turning, drilling, milling, threading, broaching, tapping, and cross-drilling. With high-volume applications, WPC leverages modular 12-station and 16-station machining with horizontal and vertical precision CNC tool spindles, and stationary, work piece-style machining with precision indexing (maintaining SPC to 2.0 CpK).

Mid-Volume Precision Machining

With mid-volume applications, WPC leverages numerous Swiss-type multi-axis CNC lathes that provide extreme accuracy, including holding tolerances to within 3 microns. These highly flexible machines are capable of cross-drilling and “done-in-one” machining with live tools and sub-spindles. They also enable greater cut depths and are ideal for long, small, and complex parts and components.

Low-Volume Machining

For low-volume machining, WPC operates dedicated and secure prototype cells that include a 5-axis CNC milling center and a flexible Swiss-type CNC turning center.

Integrated On-Site Cold Forming

Whitesell Precision Components possesses extensive on-site cold forming capabilities from the smaller diameter CNC multi-die Formax Plus all the way through to the venerable 1250 National, along with the state-of-the-art Carlo Salvi and largest diameter European cold forming equipment.  With this integrated capability, capacity and deep core competence in the art of cold heading, Whitesell Precision Components enables cost advantages through pre-forming near-net shapes prior to machining.  If you’ve wondered if the processes used by your current machined component supply chain leaves money on the floor, talk to us.

Automated Inline Vision Inspection Systems

Our process engineering staff have integrated the latest automated vision inspection systems into the Rotary Transfer production stream for industry leading performance and efficiency.

Highly Complex Machining & Fabrication

For several decades WPC has been milling and turning large, highly complex precision machined components to meet the exact, mission-critical specifications of such markets as aerospace, automotive, medical, power generation, oil & gas, and military & defense. WPC also has extensive expertise with specialty materials like magnesium, titanium, aluminum, and Inconel, and it can accommodate complex parts and components in a vast range of sizes.

Additional Machining & Fabrication

All of Whitesell Precision Component’s operations are complemented by traditional machines, including Cam-driven multi-spindle lathes and screw machines, twin-spindle CNC turning centers, multi-axis CNC vertical machining centers, and traditional CNC equipment. In addition, they are supported by a wide range of in-house machining and fabrication processes, including:

  • Near-net forming
  • Machined castings
  • Warm forming
  • Laser cutting
  • Water jet cutting
  • CNC turret pressing
  • CNC brake pressing
  • CNC milling & turning
  • MIG & TIG welding

Beyond, WPC operates a large group of plastic injection molding machines ranging in size from 40 to 400 tons. These machines are capable of producing assemblies and plastic over-molds for certain metal parts.

Secondary & Finishing Operations

WPC’s quality lab is staffed with dedicated lab technicians, quality engineers, and analysts who use such tools as Zeiss CMM, Video CMM, CMM Roamer arms, and Zeiss Surfcom. In addition, WPC maintains in-house secondary and finishing operations, such as:

  • Automated, 100% vision inspection at process
  • Ultrasonic parts cleaning (to 200 microns)
  • Vapor degreasing
  • Deburring
  • Through-feed & in-feed grinding
  • Electro-chemical deburring (ECD)
  • Class 10,000 clean rooms
  • Paint booths
  • Complex assembly and kitting
Tool Room Capabilities

WPC designs and builds its automation and inspection systems in-house through tool rooms, whose capabilities currently include:

  • CNC turning & milling
  • Wire EDM
  • Plunge EDM
  • CNC grinding
Supply Chain Management Innovation

Whitesell’s integrated end-to-end supply chain management solutions for precision machined parts and components include logistics, distribution, and in-plant vendor managed inventory (VMI) services that are not typically associated with the supply model of precision machined components.
